Despite its power, forensic science is not infallible, and high-profile miscarriages of justice have prompted scrutiny of disciplines such as bite mark analysis, hair comparison, and arson investigation, many of which lack the rigorous empirical validation applied to DNA techniques, leading to calls for standardised accreditation and independent oversight of forensic laboratories.
